Alimentaria 2018 will show the innovative character of Spanish industry

The International Food, Beverages and Food Service Trade Fair is preparing its largest event in recent years, consolidating its position as the leading platform for business and internationalisation for this industry sector in the whole of Spain.

Holding the event together with Hostelco will multiply synergies with the hotel and restaurant industry, key sectors for the Spanish economy. It will also mean the convening of more than 4,500 exhibiting companies, who will be displaying their best products.


Alimentaria 2018, organised by Alimentaria Exhibitions, will be held jointly with Hostelco (International Trade Fair for Equipment for Catering, Hospitality and Communities) from 16 to 19 April at the Gran Vía Fira de Barcelona venue. The joint holding of the two fairs will bring together the most comprehensive and cross-sector range of food, gastronomy and hospitality equipment products for professionals, occupying an area of more than 100,000m2. What is more, the organisers hope to attract more than 150,000 visitors.

In the act of presentation, the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment, Isabel García Tejerina, highlighted that, "Alimentaria is a world-renowned brand. For 42 years this great international event has been the most exceptional showcase for our food and beverage industry and has consolidated itself as an incentive for the entire sector and a forecasting vector for the future of the food industry. It has gained undoubted prestige and is the benchmark in its category for all professionals."

The President of Alimentaria and Fira de Barcelona, Josep Lluís Bonet, confirmed that, “Food is our country's leading industrial sector, and at Alimentaria it has the opportunity to show to the world its bastions such as high-quality, excellence of raw material and innovation; alongside a gastronomy which enjoys great international prestige. All this is celebrated by this Trade Fair, which over the last four decades has ceaselessly defended the interests and promoted business opportunities in the food sector”.


Enhancing export potential

Alimentaria 2018 focuses on facilitating contact between exhibiting companies and international buyers, from more than 150 countries. Although Europe continues to be the main region of ​​origin of visitors to the fair (mainly Italy, France, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Germany), a significant increase in the number of representatives from areas of great strategic interest for the Spanish market is expected, for example North America (United States, Mexico and Canada), Asia (with China at the head, although with a prominent presence from India, South Korea, Thailand and Japan) and Latin America (particularly from Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Peru and Panama).


A comprehensive range of products organised by sector

In order to organise the wide range of products in the most efficient manner and to enable the professionals to make the most of their visit to the fair, Alimentaria 2018 will be divided into six sectoral exhibitions: Intervin, Intercarn and Restaurama, which due to their size and prestige are in themselves the main trade fair leaders in Spain for the wine, meat and Food Service sectors respectively; Expoconser (the showcase par excellence of Spanish tinned goods and semi-preserved goods); Interlact (with an extensive range of dairy products and derivatives) and Multiple Foods (oriented towards mass consumer goods and sectors which are gaining prominence, including International Pavilions, Lands of Spain, Snacks, Biscuits & Confectionary, Mediterranean Foods, Organic & Functional Foods, Grocery Products and Fine Foods). To these, is added Alimentaria Premium, an exclusive area dedicated to high-class gastronomy and enology products.

In addition to promoting business opportunities, more than 200 activities that will take place at the fair. A large proportion of these will be held in the two major thematic areas, The Alimentaria Hub and The Alimentaria Experience and will be aimed at boosting innovation in the sector and promoting connections between the food, gastronomic and tourist industries, which account for 25% of the country's GDP.


Innoval 2018

Innoval is the exhibition space for products that represent a genuine innovation in the sector. Showcasing almost 300 new products, this area forms the gateway to The Alimentaria Hub. The healthiest, most nutritional and ecological natural ingredients, evocative combinations of tastes and textures, new sensations, more practical packaging, revolutionary formats. Innoval is all this and more.


Out of all the products on display, the Innoval Awards will be presented to the winners of the nine categories making up the awards.
