BioActiveMaterials project to improve the properties of food packaging

Researcher from Fraunhofer IVV, Fraunhofer IGB and KCPK are working on a new, highly advanced packaging material.


The overall innovation target of the project BioActiveMaterials is to substitute and improve the functionalities of conventional, fossil based food packaging materials by bio-based multilayer structures, providing suitable oxygen, water vapour and mineral oil barrier as well as antioxidant and antimicrobial properties.

With this new material, the quality of food will be maintained by using packaging with protein and wax coatings that reduce oxygen resp. water vapour permeation.
