Interview with Gonzalo Medina Garcia de Polavieja, International Marketing Director for Williams & Humbert


Williams & Humbert, whose origins go back to the XIX century, is one of the wineries with most history and tradition in the production of Sherry wines and Brandy, protected by the Jerez-Xeres-Sherry Denomination of Origin, and also in the production of spirits and food products. They have over 30 brands and a presence in more than 70 countries, evidence of the company’s vocation as an exporter.

INFOPACK: Williams & Humbert is widely recognised as one of the most prestigious wineries in the world. After more than 140 years of history, how do you see yourselves today?

GONZALO MEDINA GARCÍA DE POLAVIEJA: Williams & Humbert’s tradition and experience in ageing Sherry wines is shown by such signal brands as Canasta, Pando fine wine, Manzanilla Alegre or Dry Sack. Next to this Premium range, we have the range of 12-year old Sherries, Don Zoilo and special categories such as Dry Sack 15 years, Canasta 20 (20 years, VOS), Dos Cortados (Palo Cortado 20 years, VOS), Don Guido (Pedro Ximenez 20 years, VOS) and our VORS (Amontillado 30 years), Jalifa.

This is a long trajectory in which innovation has been constant, as is shown by the winery’s development of Sherry vintages. Williams & Humbert have the oldest and most complete collection of vintages in the Sherry Setting, going back to 1920. The winery has also pioneered the elaboration of biologically-aged vintages.
