PCD Paris 2018: “la crème de la crème” in cosmetics packaging

On the 31st of January and the 1st of February, Paris, the nerve centre of the world-wide perfumes and cosmetics industry, was host to the latest edition of Packaging of Perfumes, Cosmetics and Design, PCD Paris 2018.

Held together with the Aerosol & Dispensing Forum 2018 in the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles exhibition centre, the main firms in this sector found in its aisles and conference halls a truly inspiring space to display their exclusive fragrances and cosmetics.

During two days, PCD Paris 2018 became a marvellous laboratory for the ideas and dreams of the cosmetics and perfumes industry, with all of the creativity and engineering capacity of the packaging sector at its service, all with a common objective: to clothe these special products in exclusive, distinctive and special wraps. Manufacturers and transformers of bottles and packaging displayed a quantity of innovations in materials, finishes, textures and technologies that offered a real measure of how much the packaging industry can do to adapt to the ever-demanding needs of perfume and cosmetics firms. Exquisite designs in glass, glittering metallic fasteners, aromas caught in bottles with wooden seams, metallic incrustations, new grades of plastic that allow exceptional forms and qualities, pouches and tubes with luxurious finishes, and even one prized perfume whose glass container is covered with a coat of cement! - these were the protagonists of this well-attended PCD Paris 2018.

We must not forget the healthy Spanish presence - some thirty exhibitors - who demonstrated the full potential of packaging in Spain. Eurobox, Pujolasos, Estal, Gáez, Alglass, Tesem, Leca Graphics, to mention just a few, presented their proposals, demonstrating their high quality, and in general expressing their satisfaction regarding their participation and the quality of the contacts produced during the show.

With more than 500 exhibitors, over 7,000 visitors and more than 70 conferences, the 2018 edition has confirmed the growing importance of an event that the organisers, EasyFairs, added to its portfolio only two years ago.

Two highly synergistic events

PCD & ADF Paris 2018 is a unique concept that groups together two highly synergistic events. The first, leading packaging event of the year, it is
no doubt the European professional reference in aerosol, spray and dispensing systems and cosmetics packaging innovation. Every year, it brings together all the players in perfumes & cosmetics, in addition to the pharmaceutical, food, automotive and other sectors.

This year’s edition featured a new, more spacious, highly functional venue, a bigger exhibition area, outstanding new additions, a growing number of exhibitors and an international thrust.

In order to address a professional audience, the event proposed a programme with a wealth of activities, meetings, innovations, ...

Over these two days, participants could to attend meetings, conferences and activities on the themes deemed a priority for the market.

Besides, the winners of the ADF&PCD Awards, a recurrent highlight of the event, were designated during the exhibition with a view to rewarding the most outstanding innovations of the year.

The 2018 edition has been also marked by several new features:

· An Accelerator Zone allowed ten start-ups selected on the basis of their technology to present their latest creations and innovations. Among the companies present this year: Sericyne; ICTK, Voodoo (printed circuit boards on wood), etc.

· A refocused conference program that offered more importance to brands. A greater emphasis thus was given to non-exhibiting speakers with innovation, technology transfer and sustainable development remain the key topics.

· The creation of an Innovation & Technology Theater, a second conference area dedicated to exhibitors and suppliers with display cases offering visitors a quick overview of the latest packaging innovations.

· A new Pentawards area where the winners of the design competition - now part of the Easyfairs’ portfolio - were showcased.

Finally, as every year, the show was the opportunity to unveil the packaging creations awarded by two juries (one for ADF and the other for PCD) bringing together experts, professionals and journalists.

To be noted this year, the PCD Awards were divided in two new categories: one for luxury goods and the other for consumer goods. A special sustainable development award has also been created.
