It has been estimated that the world's population has increased markedly in recent decades. From 2.6 billion people in 1950 to 7.7 billion in 2020 (United Nations, 2020). Rapid population growth together with socio-economic development comes hand in hand with industrial growth in the food, agricultural and livestock sector, reaching 181.7 billion euros in the market in 2018 (Eurostat, 2018).
