At a time when the circularity of plastics is becoming established as a strategic focus for packaging, ITENE's presence at the K 2025 trade fair has reaffirmed its role as a key technology partner in the development of sustainable solutions with direct application in industry, as a result of our R&D&I lines
In Düsseldorf, we shared with 1,056 visitors from 79 countries—particularly Europe (46%), Asia (32%), and America (15%)—the advances that are shaping the future of circular materials and processes, reinforcing our international presence.
The main trends identified reflect global demand aligned with sustainability challenges. In terms of the development of packaging for the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods market, the agri-food and packaging conversion sectors are looking for recyclable solutions that contain post-consumer recycled material and compostable alternatives. In this regard, there was a notable demand for flexible, recyclable, or compostable materials that address product requirements, particularly shelf life, as well as suitability for the distribution cycle.
At the same time, companies in the sector expressed a growing need to analyze sustainable material options in order to choose the optimal solution, as well as to demonstrate the recyclability and compostability of their packaging in order to prepare declarations of conformity in accordance with PPWR requirements. They also needed to carry out validation tests to ensure compliance with legislation on sustainability and suitability for food contact.
Regarding the development of new raw materials from waste recovery, food manufacturers and agricultural producers expressed their interest in transforming their waste and by-products into new raw materials for the manufacture of packaging materials or other value-added products.
Finally, in terms of packaging recycling processes, plastic recyclers and processors are seeking solutions that optimize these processes and improve material performance, ensuring the quality and functionality of the final products.
These international opportunities, especially in Asia and America, identified by ITENE at the K Fair confirm that the most valued innovation globally is the one that allows progress towards demonstrable circularity with measurable, scalable solutions that are aligned with legislation.
