Compostable packaging, recycling technologies for multilayer or high PET content packaging and active films for the preservation of nuts were just some of the latest trends presented in Valencia at the 24th IAPRI World Packaging Conference, held from 17 to 21 June, which we reflect in this edition's market dossier.
Thus, what has been the IAPRI conference with the largest participation in its history -more than 300 attendees and 150 speakers from 32 countries- has also proved to be a key scenario to define the future of packaging.
In addition to organising the conference, ITENE has contributed to the dissemination of knowledge with eight presentations and the exhibition of four posters. At the conference, we presented solutions to boost sustainability that include new materials, such as compostable food packaging and compostable, recyclable and reusable cutlery, as well as a recyclable hotmelt adhesive paper tape.
Key to improving the sustainability of packaging is also the management of packaging waste. For this reason, we have presented recycling processes for multilayer flexible packaging and complex plastic waste with high PET content, as well as a system for the recovery of agro-industrial waste to obtain new packaging materials.
The main trends in the sector include the development of functional packaging and, as an R&D centre, we have shown an active film with green tea extract for the preservation of nuts, smart coatings and labels for fresh food products and smart and sustainable electronic packaging.
Finally, another of the main challenges of packaging is to ensure safety during the transport of goods, for which we have disseminated a case study of packaging designed to facilitate the display and replenishment of products on the packaging shelf and systems for measuring and analysing the vibration levels of lorries to simulate packaging tests.
With a multi-disciplinary approach and through R&D, we presented these solutions to companies' packaging challenges on a stage dominated by innovation: the 24th IAPRI World Packaging Conference, the largest in its history. Don't miss the chronicle of this great event in this month's edition.
