In November 2024, I participated in the last Empack Madrid trade show, giving a talk on the materials of the future. My talk was inspired by the book "Materials and Sustainability - Building a Circular Future", of which I am the co-author, published last year.

In this talk, I had the opportunity to discuss four main topics:

· The potential of the current materials we use in packaging.

· A new infrastructure for improving material processing (recycling and reuse).

· A world of new materials: How do we identify the most promising?

· Relative circularity vs. Absolute circularity: What does European legislation require?
